Training Program for the XXXVIII cycle

The PhD student’s training project consists of:

  1. developing an individual research program referring to a specific disciplinary field among those on which the Course is focused, under the guidance of the Supervisor;
  2. attending teaching activities at doctoral level complementary to the research not lower than 20 ECTS. The recognition of the ECTS, which can be acquired by attending courses and other educational activities, is carried out by the Teaching Board which authorizes the attendance and assesses the results. Educational activities, which can also be organized in common between more than one PhD course, also include training activities aimed at supporting research activities and providing tools to outline the professional identity of future research doctors.

The PhD board sets out the following number of ECTS:

Training Activities

At least 15 ECTS
  • With the attendance (and passing possible final tests) of specialist courses in the area and in the related discipline, chosen among those scheduled annually by the PhD Board. The course duration should be comprised between 12 and 20 hours. The courses provided and their programs are listed below.
  • With the attendance (and passing possible final tests) of specialist courses in the PhD area or in the related discipline, organized by other universities / research institutes / companies. The PhD Board will assess the suitability of those activities with respect to the student’s training and research objectives and establishes the number of credits to be awarded.
  • With the attendance of specialist courses organised by the International Centre for Mechanical Sciences (CISM), awarding up to 4 ECTS.
  • With the attendance of conferences and workshops related to the PhD project (up to 1 ECTS per conference day). Moreover 2 ECTS will be granted in case the PhD student makes a presentation at the conference.
  • With the presentation and the poster exhibition for the local PhD Conference / PhD Expo initiatives.
At least 5 ECTS
    • With the attendance (and passing possible final tests) of Cross-cutting activities courses / seminars, chosen among those scheduled annually by the Research Services Area of the University of Udine in the following areas: Research, Career development, Communication, Enterprise. The courses planned for the current year, with indication of the credits assigned, will be announced at the University main website.
    • With the attendance (and passing possible final tests) of courses / seminars / conferences organized by the University. The PhD Board will assess the suitability of those activities with respect to the student’s training and research objectives and will establish the number of credits to be awarded.

With the attendance (and passing possible final tests) Cross-cutting activities courses organized by other universities / research entities / companies. The Teaching Board will assess the suitability of those activities with respect to the student’s training and research objectives and will establish the number of credits to be awarded.

The individual research program ends with the writing of the thesis. The thesis, written in English or Italian, must contribute to the advancement of knowledge or methodologies in the chosen field of investigation.

The PhD Board annually evaluates the training and research activities carried out by each PhD student for the admission to the following year or to the thesis assessment stage.
